Today is Ash Wednesday. It begins the Season of Lent. Catholics troop to their parish churches in order to receive ashes on their foreheads. Young and old alike religiously obey this particular religious practice especially in catholic-dominated countries like the Philippines. What is my point? In first world countries like Ireland and other European countries, this practice seems to have lost its meaning in the spiritual life among the young generation. Perhaps, God has no more place in their life. Perhaps, secularism has influenced a lot on our young people. Perhaps, freedom has been overly emphasized. Whatever is the reason, it should be a concern to all. Faith must be nurtured among our young people. When I am at mass here in Dublin, I am asking myself: what will happen to Ireland’s faith after 2o years from now? Will there be a vibrant faith in ireland as it was in the past? What do you think?
