Faith of the Filipinos

March 23, 2008 · Leave a Comment

The Season of Lent especially the Holy Week shows the Faith of the Filipino people in God. As a Filipino I am proud that we have still that sense of God in our life. Yes, we encounter personal problems. Yes, we have problems with our country. But in spite of these problems, we don’t lost our Faith in God. Faith sustains us. We believe that it is God who gives the meaning of our life. So, in this Holy Week, thousands of Filipinos are visible in their religious practices. Perhaps, this is the time for us to examine our life and try our best to be faithful in our Christian commitment. Let us hope and pray that Filipinos will find Christ as the center of their life.

2010 People Power in the Philippines

March 14, 2008 · Leave a Comment

2010 is the year that the Philippines will hold the synchronized  National and Local elections. The Filipinos will elect their national and local leaders especially the President of the Republic of the Philippines.  2010 is crucial to the history of the Philippines. With the current events happening in the country, 2010 will be a test of the political maturity of the Filipinos. The present media exposures of the problems of our government will help the Filipinos to choose the right leaders of the country during the 2010 elections. This will be the real People Power of the Filipino people.

I think the decision of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines when it encouraged the Filipinos to involve in communal action is in preparation for the exercise of the people of their political power in the 2010 elections. The poeple must not only follow what the leaders say. The Filipinos must not only obey what the Church leaders say. But they must be the one to involve themselves in the process of nation building through communal actions emanating from them.Let hope that 2010 will indeed be a show of the People Power of the Filipinos. Let’s prepare for it – NOW.
