Congratulations Manny Pacquiao

June 29, 2008 · Leave a Comment

In the midst of the present crisis affecting the Filipino people, I believe not all are bad for us. I am talking about Manny Pacquiao’s victory in the boxing arena against Mexican Boxer Diaz by TKO. Somehow the Filipinos will be happy about it. In fact, Manny dedicated his fight to the victims of the tragedies in our country. That’s good. I hope and  pray Manny will give some financial aid to them, at least a portion of his prize. God has been so good to him. I hope he will share his blessings to our kababayans who are sufferings right now. Let’s hope for it.

Stupidity of Sulpicio Lines, Inc.

June 28, 2008 · Leave a Comment

The sinking of the Princess of the Stars in the height of Typhoon Frank that hit Philippines tells us about the stupidity of Sulpicio Lines officials. Based on media reports, Sulpicio Lines through its lawyer blamed PAGASA, the Weather Bureau of the Philippines, for what happened to the passenger ship that claimed hundreds of Filipino lives. This line of argument of Sulpicio Lines is rubbish. It is unacceptable. It is simple stupidity.

If we believe this kind of argument, then we exonerate the company from its civil and criminal liabilities. Remember this is not the first time the company meets a disaster involving its passenger vessels. There was the incident of Dona Paz. Thousands of passengers died. There was the case of the Dona Marilyn. its claimed too hundreds of lives of its passengers. Did the shipping company officials not learn from these tragedies? Did they not exert cautions every time that their passenger vessels are in the high seas where there are typhoon forecasts even if its only signal number one?  Are they aware that their passenger vessel is not bland new that it might not withstand the typhoon? All these questions should have been asked by the officials of Sulpicio Lines to themselves. If not, they are bunch of stupid people.

Another stupidity of the Sulpicio Lines officials when it allowed the Princess of the Stars to carry toxic pesticide Endosulfan which put the lives of the rescuers at stake. According to reports, in the first place, the passenger vessel is not supposed to carry it precisely because it is a passenger vessel. In fact, according to the Del Monte Philippines, which is the owner of the pesticide, the Sulpicio Lines did not tell them that pesticide cargo is with the Princess of the Stars because it should be in another cargo vessel  MV Princess Paradise. In fact, it was Del Monte Philippines that informed the government agency concerned that its cargo is with the Princess of the Stars. Will the Sulpicio lines blame now Del monte Philippines for having this toxic cargo in its passenger vessel the same that the company blame the sinking of its vessel to the Weather Bureau?

Well, I am not as intelligent as the officials of Sulpicio Lines, but in my own humble opinion, Sulpicio Lines is indeed negligent of its obligations to the public. The recent tragedy tells of its stupidity.

Sea Disaster in the Philippines – again.

June 24, 2008 · Leave a Comment

When I learned about the tragedy that happened to the passenger vessel MV Princess of the Star because of typhoon Frank that hit the Philippines recently, I could not help myself but to feel angry. Why? This is not the first time that happened involving the ship owned by Sulpicio Lines, Inc. In the past several years, MV Dona Paz and MV Marilyn, owned also by Sulpicio Lines, sank and many died on it. Is the company fit to run passenger vessels? Sabi, hindi ba sila natoto sa mga nangyari sa nakaraang panahon.

There is also a big question to our government agencies like the Philippine Coast Guard and the MARINA. These government agencies promised to conduct investigations in the past sea tragedies but it seems nothing happened. What happened to the Dona Paz investigations? What  Happened to Dona Marilyn investigations? What where their recommendations against the owner – Sulpicio Lines? In the recent sea tragedy involving MV  Princess of the Star, they promised an investigations – again!

In my own analysis of the situations, I would recommend and suggest that Sulpicio Lines be stripped of its license to operate passenger vessels in the Philippines. The company records are not worth commendable. Aside of course to its criminal and civil liabilities. Kaya ba nation itong gawin mga ginoo at ginang ng ating pamahalaan.  My Challenge!
